The Portal features a Backseat CamRock profile and set-back shape to let you steer from the rear and plough through fresh snow. The large nose makes it easy to keep the tip afloat and its mild swallowtail shape naturally sinks for an easier, more balanced riding position in steep and deep terrain. From all out pinning it to soulful carves this board offers a unique experience.
The Portal shape is taking a break from our global line this year, but the board is so well loved in the Pacific Northwest of America, that backed by our main man Dustin Anderson at Zia Works and solid retailer orders, we set our team riders Jay Hergert & Jordon Frager about making a limited edition graphic for the region. This winter sees the 35th Legendary Banked Slalom at Mt. Baker, which Slash is heavily involved with and you’ll see its winding banks in the board’s graphic.
Jay produced the graphic for the 2020 model and Jordan said of the new graphic: “Our vision, heavily influenced by the Pacific Northwest and all of her beauty, was to create a similar feeling of staring into the endless depths of the hills. From the micro mountain scene within the eye of the Raven to the spiralling banked slalom in the centre, the whole focus was to give anyone who looks at this board the feeling that they are being drawn into the Portal themselves.
Riding for us is about being fully immersed in the present moment, present with the mountains and the more we dive in the more powerful it becomes. We wanted that passion and presence to be both seen and felt in this graphic; for the rider to look down and every time be reminded to fully dive into the portal of their dreams.”
The Backseat CamRock design places rocker in the nose and a slight amount in the tail with positive camber in between. This setback design delivers camber stability and control between the feet and in the tail, with the added float and maneuverability of the rockered nose.
Pure carbon fiber slabs placed in a cross pattern under the inserts between the base and the core to enhance responsiveness, pop, torsional stiffness and amplify foot movement.
Triax fiberglass is the time-tested classic. It features a three-way weave of premium fibers with strands running at 45-degree angles. It provides superior pop, consistent torsional flex, and more overall response.
Crafted with light density paulownia for lightness, poplar for responsiveness and hardwood beech stringers along the edges to increase core durability, pop and protection from edge impacts.
Biax fiberglass is a two-way weave of fiberglass with strands running every 90-degrees. It’s more forgiving, easier to flex and highly versatile for all terrain types.
This extruded base with same properties of sintered quality is fast, durable and requires less waxing. We believe in using the best possible materials in our boards.
We add a slight diamond-structured stone grind to the base to maximize glide and optimize durability. It eliminates the slow, suction cup feel that comes with one-dimensional base finishes.
A predictable and powerful sidecut with a single radius that makes for consistent turns. It’s ideal for intermediate and advanced riders who already know how to carve a turn, like to ride fast, and desire strong edge hold.
